At the end the audience went wild with 15 minutes of applause and curtain calls- pent up enthusiasm was unabashedly released and showered on the very deserving performers. ![]() Also no applause and no laughter even when the work was funny (intentionally or unintentionally). Not a cough, nary a whisper nor rustle of a cough candy being unwrapped. The voices, orchestra, staging and direction were top notch as was the very serious audience. I booked my tickets on line from Canada and got good orchestra seats. nice! It entails standing throughout the show but for 4 euros? However, you still have to dress-up for the opera even if you are standing :) don't forget to rent opera glasses! Enjoy! they have this little boxes on the standing bars which translates the opera to your language. you will be at the end of the orchestra center. You can choose between the balcony for three euros (don't know how that looks like) or orchestra centre for four euros. there is a door on the right side of the building (line up before 4:30) for the standing areas. if you want to watch a full opera at the state opera house without having booked in advance. When in Vienna, there are many shows you can watch.at almost every corner of the main shopping street there are people selling tickets for "musical samplers" the shows generally consists of a little chamber music with fantastic soloists, a few opera songs, a touch of ballet, but all top caliber and fantastic!
